Are you planning to get your motorcycle license and want to know the essential equipment to ensure your safety and that of your vehicle? Here’s an overview of the mandatory and recommended equipment for a safe and worry-free ride.

Essential Equipment for Motorcyclists

To guarantee your safety on the road, certain protective gear is required by law.

Approved Helmet : Since July 1, 1973, wearing an approved helmet has been mandatory for all drivers of motorized two-wheelers. Failure to comply with this requirement can result in a fine of up to €750 and a deduction of 3 points from your license.

Approved Gloves : As with the helmet, motorcyclists must wear certified gloves. Failure to comply will result in a €68 fine and the loss of one point.

High-visibility vest: Although not mandatory while riding, the high-visibility vest must be readily accessible in case of an emergency stop since January 1, 2016. Failure to wear this vest is punishable by an €11 fine. In the event of an emergency stop, wearing it is mandatory, otherwise a €135 fine will be imposed.

Recommended equipment for motorcyclists: In addition to motorcycle accessories and gear, other protective equipment is strongly recommended to minimize risks in case of a fall or accident. Jacket: It protects the upper body and must include approved protectors. A back protector is also recommended to protect the spine.Boots or shoes: These protect the feet and ankles. The choice between boots and shoes depends on your riding habits: boots for sport or road riding, and shoes for urban riding.

  • Pants Approved motorcycle pants offer additional protection for the lower body. Reinforced jeans with a Kevlar lining can be a good alternative for city riding.
  • To equip yourself properly, compare prices online to find the best deals on motorcycle gear.
