It was during the EICMA 2018 motorcycle show, held from November 7th to 12th in Milan, that the launch of the SuperNEX (Kymco SuperNEX Concept) was announced. This motorcycle combines supersport with electric power. This little gem was acclaimed by the public; indeed, it follows the current electric trend without compromising its sporty qualities. Among the electric motorcycles we know, this one brings a true revolution. Discover why in this article! The Special Features of the SuperNEXIn particular, this motorcycle can reach speeds of up to 250 km/h in just 11 seconds: what an achievement! While electric motorcycles are often accused of not satisfying true motorcyclists, Kymco has chosen to implement a special system that imitates and amplifies motorcycle sounds: the active acoustic motor. These include multi-frequency acoustic generators that reproduce the sounds of an internal combustion engine. This sound is also adjustable to the rider’s preference. The Taiwanese manufacturer, which specializes in scooters, has taken a considerable gamble by launching the SuperNEX. It aims to entice even the most seasoned motorcyclists to switch to electric. From a standstill, it reaches 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. To achieve this, the manufacturers have incorporated the FEP (Full Engagement Performance) assistance software. This allows the wheels to maintain their speed even during high acceleration: no slippage, preventing unintentional wheelies. Furthermore, this motorcycle has four riding modes: Balanced, Assertive, Bold, and Extreme.

What we generally look for in

riding a motorcycle

It’s this ability to accelerate without limitations. Electric motorcycles generally only have one gear, which prevents them from reaching maximum acceleration. Yet, it’s precisely this truly high speed that most appeals to supersport motorcycle riders. Unlike other electric motorcycles, the SuperNEx also delivers this feature. Its 6-speed transmission allows it to make the most of its power; it even has a real clutch lever and gear selector. The manufacturer aimed to offer the same riding experience on this electric motorcycle as on a conventional one. The gears influence efficiency and responsiveness, as well as acceleration and top speed. The FEP (Front Enablement Performance) system helps riders control their vehicle with confidence. It’s a performance management aid. We don’t yet have a precise production date or even a price. The manufacturer likely used this trade show to gauge customer demand: whether the motorcycle in question is appealing or not. According to Allen Ko: “With SuperNEX, Kymco marks the beginning of a new era for supersport motorcycles. We believe that electric power opens up a new era of endless opportunities to appeal to the most demanding riders worldwide.”
