MirrorLink is gaining increasing popularity in the automotive industry. This connected car technology is becoming a standard in the automotive market. MirrorLink allows drivers to access almost all the functionality of a smartphone on an integrated screen.
What is the MirrorLink system? As an interoperable system, MirrorLink is a technology that allows you to connect a smartphone to a car multimedia screen.
Unlike Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink works via a mobile device. The MirrorLink system duplicates the display and some functions of a phone onto a car multimedia system. As a result, drivers can access numerous mobile applications such as GPS navigation, media players, and other apps on an integrated touchscreen, or even receive calls using the vehicle’s steering wheel controls.
Like any in-car system, MirrorLink has a few drawbacks. It is not compatible with all types of smartphones. First and foremost, it’s important to know that this technology is developed within the Car Connectivity Consortium. In principle, the connected mirroring initiative is only available for mobile phone brands that integrate the Car Connectivity Consortium, namely: Samsung, LG, Apple, Mi, Honor, HTC, Huawei, Motorola, Vivo, and Oppo. However, some recent smartphone models may support the MirrorLink system, provided they have the necessary updates.
