These car cameras are incredibly useful because they can be placed on the dashboard, the windshield, or both to document what happens inside and outside your car. They are perfect for accidents where you need evidence or when you want to monitor your car while it’s in a parking lot.
Julien H., a resident of Bordeaux, has owned a dashcam for 10 years. “I saw them used on a show I was watching at the time. They showed people throwing themselves under cars to get insurance coverage. I decided the best thing to do was buy one myself.”
A useful purchase
“But it only lasted two months,” says this salesman, who bought a €20 camera online. Julien isn’t discouraged because, as he points out, this tiny camera can be used for many things: providing evidence in case of a collision with an animal, pedestrians, or bicycles, in case of an accident, a hit-and-run, or even… taking landscape photos!
This device has only been used once in the last decade—following a minor car accident where the other driver refused to admit fault. “Our insurance companies initially said we each had to pay 50% of the deductible. But I gave them the recording of this device, which showed that I wasn’t at fault, and in the end they paid everything.” This benefit allowed Julien to recoup the cost of his camera: “The deductible was €300, the price of my dashcam.” For the salesman, the dashcam is so useful that he even bought one for his father.Elsa is a brand-new camera user. She installed it in January simply to monitor her car in the parking lot.
But what really motivated her to use it was when she was hit by a truck on the ring road. If she had used the camera at that moment, she would have obtained the truck’s license plate number and could have easily filed an insurance claim.
