Under Article L. 211-1 of the French Insurance Code, motor vehicles must, at a minimum, be insured with third-party liability coverage, meaning insurance that guarantees the civil liability of the driver. This coverage compensates third-party victims in the event of an accident for which the driver is responsible. As the legal minimum for car insurance, it is the cheapest option, but also the least secure. It does not protect either the driver or their vehicle. If you wish to benefit from more comprehensive coverage, it is in your best interest to supplement this minimum coverage with optional coverages or to opt for a fully comprehensive policy.

Assess your car insurance needs beforehand. If you want your future car insurance policy to best meet your needs, you should not skip this step under any circumstances. Such an assessment helps you identify the coverages you will actually need and prevents you from paying for unnecessary ones. At this stage, your driver profile, the make and model of your vehicle, its age, its value, as well as how you use it, must be taken into account. Use this opportunity to anticipate any potential changes in your current situation. Nothing should be left to chance.

After this self-assessment, you can start looking for your “ideal policy”: a policy that offers optimal coverage and won’t destabilize your finances. To find it, it seems more practical to look at online insurers. As you will seeon the L’Olivier Assurance website, the offers from online insurance companies

are often the cheapest on the market.

Which car insurance policy should you choose for the best coverage? When you’re a driver, it’s clear that third-party insurance is far from sufficient, even if your vehicle is old and has high mileage. To feel more secure, it’s wise to opt for at least an intermediate or extended third-party policy.

This refers to third-party car insurance enhanced with several optional coverages that you choose according to your needs. You can choose from theft coverage, fire coverage, personal injury protection for the driver, collision damage coverage, legal protection, roadside assistance, comprehensive coverage, and more. Purchasing the latter is recommended if your vehicle is still in good condition or if you’re a young driver but your budget doesn’t allow for full comprehensive coverage.
