How do I recharge a battery and when should I replace it?

Battery problem? Don’t know how to recharge it? Find our practical tips. On average, a battery lasts five years if properly maintained. To increase its lifespan, we recommend charging it once every two months – especially if you live in a city and put more strain on your alternator.

For this maintenance, you will need the following: a battery charger and an adjustable wrench. The purpose of the wrench is to loosen the terminal. Locate the battery. The battery’s location can vary; it is most often found in the engine compartment at the front, but in some cases, it may be in the trunk (users should refer to the car’s owner’s manual for more information). Use a wrench (10 mm or 13 mm, depending on the model) to disconnect the negative (-) terminal.

  1. Connect the charger clamps to the battery terminals, but do not connect the charger to the power supply. Plug the charger into a power source and see if it works.
  2. The latest generation of electronic chargers can recharge your devices in a fraction of the time it would take with an older charger.

To remove the charger, simply reverse the process you used to connect it.

Note: Be careful not to overcharge the battery, as this can cause permanent damage.

If your device still does not charge after following these instructions, it may be time to replace the battery.

How to maintain a car battery?

  • To maintain your car or motorcycle battery, you should:
  • Regularly check the electrolyte level and top up with distilled water if necessary.
  • Keep the terminals and clamps clean, cleaning them with a wire brush if needed.
  • If your battery has caps, check the electrolyte level (it should be one or two centimeters above the electrodes).

If you need to add water, be sure to use only distilled water, never acid!

How to make a car battery last?

Here are some tips to make your car battery last longer:

Avoid short trips where the engine doesn’t have time to fully charge the battery.

If you know you won’t be using your car for a while (more than two weeks), disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place.

When you reconnect the battery, make sure the connections are clean and tight.

Use a battery charger to keep the battery fully charged if you know you won’t be driving for a while.

If your car has an onboard computer, have the system checked regularly—it can drain your battery without you realizing it. What should you put in a battery?

Distilled water is what you should put in a battery. You should also check the electrolyte level, which should be one or two centimeters above the electrodes. If you need to add water, be sure to use only distilled water, never acid! When should you change a car battery?

On average, a battery lasts five years if it is properly maintained. If you live in a city and put more strain on your alternator, we recommend changing it every two or three years.

If you notice that your car battery is losing its charge quickly, or if it doesn’t hold a charge at all, it’s time to change it.

If your battery is more than three years old, we recommend changing it even if it doesn’t seem to have any problems.

Why and when should you use a battery tester? A battery booster is a device that increases the charging speed of your car battery. Find our guide here on
