Renault has shared updates regarding its electrification initiative under its new brand, Ampère, highlighting the Renault 5 (R5) E-Tech. The price of this model has been reduced, a response to increasing competition in the sector.

Despite the high cost of electric cars, they are considered more economical to run. However, price remains a barrier, even though price parity with small internal combustion engine cars is anticipated before the end of this decade.

This trend is driven by the decreasing cost of lithium, allowing manufacturers to offer more affordable vehicles. Many manufacturers, including Volkswagen, Citroën with its ë-C3 model, as well as Opel and Ford, plan to launch electric models priced under €25,000.

However, the brand recently confirmed that the price would be around €25,000, thanks to its new electric division, Ampère, which is planning a conference to further detail its future projects.

Ampère also published a press release outlining its strategy for the coming years, promising that the R5 will be an affordable car. Regarding the Renault 5, expected next year, it should cost “around €25,000,” a price lower than the previously announced €30,000. This places the vehicle in the €25,000 to €30,000 price range. The Renault Legend, planned for a later launch, is expected to cost less than 20,000 euros.

This price revision could be a response to the Citroën ë-C3, also priced under €25,000, in the face of increased competition. A €19,990 version of the Renault is planned for 2025.

The entry-level price will be around €25,000, with a version offering over 400 km of range likely to be more expensive than the 300 km version. Ampère aims for a 40% cost reduction within a generation, which will allow for a gradual decrease in prices while improving margins. This cost reduction will impact the final price for customers, particularly thanks to a 50% reduction in battery costs.
