Despite the development of public transportation such as trains and buses, cars remain very popular with individuals. This explains the noticeable increase in the sector. However, some countries and brands have managed to stand out and attract more customers than others. The evolution of new technologies, environmental concerns, and the growing number of drivers are all contributing factors to this increase in sales. Let’s look at the characteristics of the automotive market this year and for the coming periods. The situation of the automotive market in
France during the first 5 months In May 2019, a slight increase in
car sales was observed. Indeed, the French Automobile Manufacturers’ Committee (CCFA) reported that the number of registrations increased by 1.17% compared to May 2018. However, the situation changed in June 2019 with a decrease of 8.4% compared to June 2018. This decline is all the more noticeable given the slight increase experienced by the French automotive market during the previous two months. The market was rather dynamic during the first half of the year. In fact, during the first quarter, the French automotive group PSA faced some difficulties, both in terms of sales and revenue. In Europe, the group was quite profitable, but globally, it was a different story. The suspension of business in Iran and obstacles in the Chinese market were among the causes of this international difficulty. Successful Brands Although China and India havefound their place in the global automotive market,French brands are not to be outdone. In this regard, Citroën and Peugeot are among the most popular vehicles in France. This is true even for aused Peugeot 308
which remains an excellent deal for buyers. Indeed,
Citroën and Peugeot were the big winners in the first half of the year, with increases of 23.1% and 5.32% respectively. For foreign brands, the German Volkswagen and the Japanese Toyota are successful in France. Even though foreign manufacturers appeal to the French, local manufacturers still cover a significant market share with 59% of sales. What about the coming years? Recently, the National Council of Automotive Professions (CNPA) conducted a “Prospective Analysis on the Automotive Aftermarket.” According to this analysis, growth of 2.6% is expected by 2025, reaching 33.6 million units. Vehicles with gasoline engines are expected to increase, while diesel cars will be declining. Environmental imperatives combined with a general increase in awareness will lead to a rise in hybrid and electric vehicles, representing 7% and 3% of the total fleet, respectively. However, a 1.6% increase in mileage is also expected, reaching 13,500 km. Regarding connected cars, users still have some concerns, particularly concerning the delegation of data processing to a third party.
