If you want to calculate a route with great precision, you should use the Mappy app. Very intuitive, it offers various advanced features not found in other GPS software like TomTom, Sygic, Waze, and iGO.
Mappy Route: the most widely used navigation system in France
Created in 1987, this application was initially used primarily on Minitel terminals. Now more accessible, Mappy Route can be used with a simple web browser. Compatible with different modes of transport (car, public transport, train, plane, scooter, and bike sharing), if installed on a smartphone or iPhone, it can be used without an internet connection.

How to calculate a car route with Mappy?
Just like with Google Maps or other navigation software, you simply enter your starting and ending routes. After this step, it will calculate the route based on various criteria:
- The length of the route:
By default, with Mappy, you can calculate the shortest route. Besides that, it’s also possible to configure it by searching for the shortest route that avoids highways or, conversely, national and departmental roads.
- Traffic flow:
In real time, Mappy Route can track traffic patterns. As soon as the software detects roadworks, an accident, a strike, etc., it immediately suggests alternative routes to the driver.
- Vehicle type:
Access to a road may be regulated depending on the type of vehicle and its weight. With Mappy, you can therefore configure your route taking these constraints into account. In addition, the application can also suggest a route with smooth or congested traffic, but one that can still help you save maximum fuel.
What are the advantages of Mappy compared to other GPS software?
Like GPS devices that use an RDS (Radio Data System) transmission system, Mappy can detect fixed speed cameras, speed limit signs, and warning signs. But its biggest advantage lies in its ability to find points of interest (POIs). Mappy doesn’t just help you find a restaurant, hotel, shopping center, or parking lot (blue zone). The application can also identify prices offered by a store and compare them.
