When the tire pressure warning light on your Peugeot 208 illuminates, it means that one or more tires may be underinflated or overinflated. However, even after the problem is fixed, this warning light may continue to indicate under- or over-inflation of the tires. How do you reset it?
What should you do when the tire pressure warning light comes on?
Before getting to the heart of the matter, it’s crucial to understand that correcting tire pressure issues should not be taken lightly. Across Europe, an underinflated or overinflated tire is responsible for 6% of fatal accidents, 15% of which occur on highways. This is perfectly understandable, as a faulty tire can cause a rollover even if the driver is traveling at moderate speeds. How do you check the tire pressure on a 208? If your dashboard indicates low tire pressure, stop your vehicle immediately. Then, manually check the condition of your tires. If you don’t notice anything unusual, it’s still recommended that you go to the nearest garage or service station. To prevent accidents, never drive faster than 50 km/h (31 mph), and if you’re on a highway, turn on your hazard lights.
Once you arrive at the garage, they will check your tire pressure using a pressure gauge. As a guide, the normal pressure for a Peugeot 208 1.4 HDI equipped with 185/65R15 88 T tires should be 2.2 bar (3.5 psi) at the front and 2.0 bar (3.5 psi) at the rear. After the check, any under- or over-inflation will be corrected. Depending on the circumstances, the mechanic may also recommend replacing your tire if it’s too worn. For your safety, it’s strongly advised to do so immediately.
How do I reset the tire pressure on a Peugeot 208?
To turn off the TPMS warning light on your 208, open the glove box and press the reset button. Once this is done, it should turn off automatically. However, be careful. Before resetting, perform several checks with a tire pressure tester. If your tires are still underinflated and you reset the TPMS, it will no longer be able to detect this problem.
