Why is the Suzuki 750 motorcycle the most popular in the GSX-R series?

When its first iteration was released in 1985, the GR75A cost around €6,500 and featured a 749cc engine with four carburetors. Equipped with a single shock absorber, it had three disc brakes, two at the front, and an air/oil cooling system also used on the Suzuki Bandit 600 and 650.

Regarding its second version, the GR77B, several improvements were made. Among the most significant was a modification to the clutch. Instead of a dry multi-plate clutch, Suzuki decided to replace it with a wet multi-plate clutch. As a result, its top speed could exceed 240 km/h. Another notable feature of these early GSX-R 750 models was the weight gain of the GSX-R 750 W. While the average Suzuki 750 weighed around 190 kg, its dry weight was 208 kg. However, this didn’t prevent it from achieving a top speed of 250 km/h. However, recognizing this as a weakness, Suzuki significantly lightened the next version, resulting in a weight of 179 kg and an 18-liter fuel tank.

Other models in the GSX-R series: Even though the 750 was the most popular, this didn’t stop the other models from making their mark. For example, the GSX-R 400, even though it couldn’t exceed 204 km/h, was quite popular with motorcyclists, especially when it was fitted with an aluminum body from 1988 onwards. Besides this model, there was also the GSX-R 1100. With its 1074 cc 16-valve engine, it could reach speeds of up to 260 km/h. And just like the first version of the 750, it had two disc brakes at the front and one at the rear.
